10 Food Apps That Are Actually Useful

Being both a Smart Nation and food paradise, Singapore has a ton of food apps promising added convenience to every foodie’s journey.

However, downloading every food app available to your phone can result in information overload and inconvenience, the very problems they were designed to fix.

With so many food apps available in Singapore, it can be difficult to decide which food apps are actually useful.

To help, we compiled a list of 10 food apps and what they're best for so you can download those best suited to your needs!

1) Eatigo

Best for Off-Peak Dining

Eatigo offers generous time-based discounts on over 1000 food establishments, including bars, restaurants and cafes, which can slash your bill by as much as 50%. If you are travelling within the region, you can use the same Eatigo account to make restaurant reservations in Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Philippines and India.

For example, if you use Eatigo to dine at 313@Somerset’s Marche Movenpick on Wednesday, you can get 50% off your total bill if you dine at 4pm, 20% if you dine at 6pm, and 10% if you dine at 7pm.

2) Fave (previously Groupon)

Best for Food Deals and Cashless Payment

Fave offers a ton of discounted food deals, including food vouchers, buffets and snacks. Beyond that, Fave also has a cashless payment platform called FavePay, which is accepted by over 600 retailers. This includes fast-food restaurants like Subway, dessert shops like Chateraise, and bubble tea shops like Hollin.

When you use FavePay, the cashback accumulated from previous transactions can be used to offset your next visit to the same retailer.

3) The Entertainer

Best for Dining at Restaurants

The Entertainer offers 1,700 one-for-one and special discounts for dining and other recreational activities at over 900 outlets across Singapore. Deals available include 1-for-1 promotions when ordering main courses at Fat Cow and Hard Rock Cafe , and 1-for-1 buffets at Straits Café and Katong Kitchen.

While the app costs $75/year (U.P $145/year), according to The Entertainer, the average member saved $725 from the app in 2017. If you enjoy trying out new dining places in small groups, here’s a way for you to fill up without lightening your wallet.

4) Burpple

Best for Community Reviews

In Singapore’s vibrant F&B scene, you may be spoilt for choice. While the best way of determining whether the food is good is to try it for yourself, most people don’t have the luxury of time (and money) to try out every new café.

If you’re thinking of trying out somewhere new to eat, Burpple offers the next best thing: community-sourced feedback by fellow food lovers like us. You too can contribute your food reviews and keep the conversation going.

Beyond just food reviews, you can also opt for the newly launched Burpple Beyond Membership at $9.90/month, which offers 1-for-1 deals at over 100 restaurants, cafes and bars, including Sunday Folks and The Sushi Bar.

5) Chope

Best for Restaurant Reservations and Vouchers

You can use Chope to make reservations at over 1100 restaurants offering different cuisines to earn Chope Dollars, which can be exchanged for restaurant vouchers and KrisFlyer miles. You can also pre-purchase Chope vouchers at certain restaurants for up to 50% off the usual price.

For example, at Wild Honey at Scotts, you can pre-purchase a $50 voucher at $25 to be used exclusively between 4pm to 8pm on ordinary days, and an $50 voucher at $45 which can be used all-day.

6) Fuzzie

Best for Discounted Gift Cards

The Fuzzie App offers Instant Cashback on gift cards purchased, which can be used in numerous dining establishments including Tanuki Raw and Park Bench Deli. The cashback earned can then be used to buy new gift cards. This can save you money over the long run.

For example, Tanuki Raw gift cards purchased come with 10% instant cashback, while Park Bench Deli gift cards come with 30% instant cashback.

7) GrabFood

Best for Food Delivery

Despite being a relatively newcomer to the food delivery scene, GrabFood says thousands of food establishments have signed up to be on its platform, including major players like Mcdonald’s and YumCha. Every purchase you make via GrabFood allows you to earn GrabRewards Points, which can be used to redeem additional freebies on the GrabRewards Catalogue like Grab ride discounts, Topman vouchers and KrisFlyer miles.

8) JPassport

Best for Japanese Food

If you are a fan of Japanese food, JPassport is an app you cannot live without. JPassport regularly features limited time promotions by Japanese restaurants and cafes which are limited to JPassport members only. This includes exclusive one-for-one set lunch deals and free dishes when you flash offers on the app, including Free Fried Oyster from Imakatsu and Free Chicken Karaage from Sanji Ramen.

JPassport members can also rack up VIP Points at frequented restaurants, which will grant you privileges including permanent discounts for every visit after you spend above a certain amount.

9) YQueue Campus

Best for University Students

If you’re a university student in NUS, NTU and SMU, you may find yourself queueing for your favourite ban mian or wanton mee for over half an hour during lunch hour. With YQueue Campus, you don’t have to settle for less, as you get to skip the queue without having to pay extra. There are both dine-in and takeaway options available, which means there’s no reason to eat well even when rushing between lessons.

10) Healthy365

Best for healthy foodies

An initiative by the Health Promotion Board, the Healthy365 app allows you to keep track of your daily food intake and count calories. Users who make healthier choices through the Eat, Drink, Shop Healthy Challenge will be able to accumulate Healthpoints, which can be used to redeem HPB vouchers. These vouchers can then be spent at participating merchants, including lifestyle retailers, F&B outlets and supermarkets.

Food apps can spice up your foodie journey even if you don’t have deep pockets. Except for The Entertainer App and Burpple Plus, the rest of the apps listed are free, which means there’s no harm having them on your phone. However, as the Obike controversy teaches us, do read the fine print before downloading a new app.
