Affordable Dates Under $15

Updated: Jul 2, 2018

We all know we have to break the bank for nice dinners, and how some of those places clearly aren't worth your $50. That fortunately doesn't always have to be the case when you try to spend a little bit of quality time with someone special. We bring you a couple of places you can have a good meal and decent date at for just $15! The bonus is, we even planned out "game plans" you can refer to at the end of each write-up. You can thank us later if it goes well!

1. Toff Loft

Victor's Special

The Toff Loft is new place recently opened at Oxley towers, right beside the famous Chunky Lobsters so madly raved by foodies of the internet, and well, us. We stumbled upon them precisely because we were visiting, and they’re a quaint little place owned by 2, a chef and a dedicated florist. This explains why the place is so beautifully decorated with plants hanging overseas and hints of flora everywhere. The chef, a very dedicated one, wakes up in the wee hours of the morning to buy fresh ingredients from a wholesale market and insists that he does everything home-made from scratch. Kudos to this guy!

This place only sits 6 so you don’t have to worry about privacy — there’s a whole lot.

What they're good for are their pastas where you can mix and match a sauce base - Aglio Olio ($7.90), Pomodoro ($8.90) and add on ingredients - Meats ($5), Seafood ($8). They also have Roast Spring Chicken selling at $9.50 for half.

What we like about this place is that its homely and its owners are warm, friendly people. Our pasta was freshly made with refreshing flavours, however a tad bland because the chef didn't want to over salt it for us young people. But, feel free to tell them what you prefer if you do visit!

Game Plan: This place has a homely is homely and private, perfect for a romantic date. Also, you can have your desserts at places like Cake Spade on the way back to Tanjong Pagar MRT.

Price Range: $9.50 - $16.90

Address: Oxley Towers, Level 3

2. M Seven Cafe

Just look at that generously slathered mentaiko! M Seven Cafe is a place that serves up western favourites at very fair prices with no GST! Their menu ranges from pastas, rostis and Mac and cheese to fried chicken on rice. Our favourite is their Salmon Samurai maki ($9.90) and Prawn Chilli Cream Pasts ($10). Don't underestimate this unassuming pork-floss covered sushi, it's also slightly scorched on the surface that adds dimension to its taste. This place is also a good choice for a gathering with friends. Still in school? Flash your student card and get a main course and drink for only $9.90!

Oh yes, M Seven has recently been officially Halal certified.

Game Plan: Your post dinner date plans will never be dry with bars and desert places nearby. We'd recommend Merely Ice Cream down Bencoolen street right beside PoMo for affordable and delectable ice cream and waffles to share.

Price Range: $9.50 - $12.90

Address: 1 Selegie road #01-12 PoMo

Opening Hours: Mon - Sun 10am to 9.30pm

3. Mrs Pho

Source: Burpple (Hwans Lim)

The hipster-pho place with punny posters and definitely one of the best Phos I've had.

My favourite is the Mrs Pho Dry Noodles ($11.90) with sweet BBQ pork, Hanoi meatballs and spring rolls. It comes with tangy chilli sauce on the size to pair. The soupy Phos here have an amazing, savoury broth that is tasty yet not too heavy on the palate, with bits of chilli for that extra kick. The coconut smoothie is another great drink to try if you're willing to spend an extra $6.90. It's thick, creamy and the kind of drink that just makes your day.

Game Plan: After grabbing dinner at this hipster Pho place, you can complete your date with a movie at The Projector at Golden Mile just a short 5 minutes walk across the street! 10/10 date plan, fail-proof.

Price Range: $9.90 to $16.90

Address: 349 Beach Road, Singapore 199570 (Beside Nicoll Highway MRT)

Opening Hours: Sun - Mon 11am to 10pm, Fri - Sat 11am to 11pm.

4. Bread Yard

Source: Bread Yard

An honest little place where you can get that cafe fix at, without spending over $50 for two.

Bread Yard is popular for their cheesesteak sandwich ($12) with sliced rib-eye and cheddar for a pretty decent price. Stuff here is on the healthy side with rye bread for sandwiches and so on. You can find their menu here.

On a side note, don't you just love restaurants that put their full, updated menus online?

Game Plan:

Bread Yard is good for early dinner dates after work and a nice, romantic stroll at Labrador Park just 3 stops down.

Brunch on Saturdays would also be a great way for you to start your weekend date early.

Price Range: $8 to $16.90

Address: Galaxis, 1 Fusionopolis Place, #01-23/24, Singapore 138522

Opening Hours: Mon - Fri 8am to 7.30pm, Sat 9am to 2.30pm

5. One Man Coffee

Source: Burpple (Gin)

Gas House Eggs ($12) don't underestimate runny eggs and cheese on a french toast. This guy is thick and fierce, ready to satisfy your comfort food cravings. Your sweet tooth would appreciate their French Toast ($15) with berries and vanilla ice cream. One Man Coffee is a popular go-to that doesn't even need much recommending, try it yourself this weekend! You can view their menu on Facebook here.

Game Plan: Grab a coffee from this famous place and chat the afternoon away!

Price Range: $8 to $15/$17

Address: 215R Upper Thomson Road, Singapore 574349

Opening Hours: 9am to 5pm, daily.

6. Sushiro

Source: Burpple (Elyn See)

Where else could you find Bara Chirashi for $12.80? Their bowls sport home made sauce generously drizzled, fresh and generous portions of seafood. You can upgrade these bowls for a higher price but these quite sufficiently satisfy.

Expect a queue!

Game Plan: Thomson Plaza is unfortunately a pretty quiet mall, but the bonus is that you can have a romantic walk there from Marymount! Upper Thomson also sports a whole range of ice cream desert stores if you're into that.

Price Range: $8 to $19+

Address: 301 Upper Thomson Road, #01-113F, Thomson Plaza, Singapore 574408

Opening Hours: Wed - Mon 11:45am to 2:15pm, 5:45pm to 9:15pm

7. Kinmoo Thai

Source: Kin Moo

A Thai Restaurant in the corner of Bugis, right beside the Downtown Line MRT station. Perhaps unlike the typical thai restaurants around with minimal decor, Kinmoo sports a more modern setting, without losing its authentic flavour. As its signboard would show, the best thing here is its Thai Noodles and it surely doesn't disappoint. The BaaMee Moo Dang ($6.50), most similar to the Wanton Mee we Singaporeans usually has thick, sweet pieces of char siew and wantons. It also has a wide range of other Thai dishes on the menu such as BBQ Pork Neck, Yellow Curry, Kang Kong and so on. You can find their menu here.

Game Plan: Just behind this street is popular Chinese desert place -- Ah Chew Desert. Got your post dinner plans settled!

Price Range: $6.90 to $7.90

Address: 2 Tan Quee Lan Street #01-02 Singapore 188091

Opening Hours: 11.30am – 3pm, 5.30pm – 10pm Daily
