Dubai Is Secretly A Food Haven!

Prior to visiting this urban city, people have given me the impression of Dubai being known for it's modern architecture and bustling nightlife. But after experiencing the Dubai life for a long holiday, I've come to know the side of this city that screams metropolis of food!

I shan't keep you in suspense, here are 5 of the most loved dishes in Dubai that you regrettably cannot savour in sunny Singapore.

1. Zaroob's Chicken Shawarma Wrap

Essentially, this dish is prepared on a vertical spit and grilled for hours until the outer layer of meat is beautifully roasted. It looks deceving as this wrap looks exactly like the "kebab" we have at night markets or mexican restaurants BUT take a bite and you'll be completely amazed by a punch of flavours (in a good way)! The roasted and marinated chicken is served with toumaia (creamy garlic sauce) and sometimes hummus which adds a different dimension to its taste. The locals would finish it by adding a mix of refreshing greens and a crisp wrap! It's mind blowing that a similar looking dish would taste so different.

Trust me, this is a must go when you visit Dubai or it'll be equivalent to you not having chicken rice in Singapore.

2. Tim Hortons

For all coffeephiles out there, this place would certainly satisfy your caffeine cravings with their wide selection of coffee. Tim Hortons is a fast growing fast food chain known for its coffee and sweet treats, and the equivalent of Starbucks in Canada.

Go ahead and grab its popular drinks such as 'French Vanilla', flavoured coffee with a fragrant, creamy and mildly bitter taste or its fruit smoothies such as 'Strawberry Banana', milkshake that's smooth, rich and creamy. If you're an avid Starbucks fan, you'll most probably love this and if you're not, no harm trying!

3. Shake Shack

Never have I imagined myself saying this but Shake Shack has definitely one of better burgers I've eaten! A few must-trys are the ShackBurger and Shack Stack Burger. The highlight was clearly the juicy beef patties as its natural flavour was not overpowered but complemented by the sauces. To further enhance your experience, order the ShackBurger with fried onions, an iced lemonade and cheese and veal bacon fries!

Prices are quite steep for this fast food chain but I encourage you to stay true to your inner foodie: Eat first, fret later!

4. The Cheesecake Factory

This restaurant is very well received by the locals and tourists mainly due to its wide selection of more than 30 cheesecakes! That's right, you will be spoilt for choice because the cakes really do look as good as they taste. If you ever face the dilemma of choosing, make sure to order the Original or Strawberry Cheesecake. The cakes are smooth, rich and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness that it doesn't make one too "gelat". Therefore, heed my advice and eat in moderation although I understand that every mouth is too good to resist!

5. Bu Qtair Restaurant

Don't underestimate these two plates of fried food, this casual restaurant is definitely the best finds in Dubai! It is situated along the Jumeirah Beach where you can catch a glimpse of the Burj Al Arab and the coastline. There's nothing better than having good food and view all at one place!

They serve fresh fried hamour fish and shrimps marinated in a secret sauce, topped with freshly squeezed lemons. This dish's appearance certainly does not serve it justice, but the fish and shrimps are surprisingly firm yet juicy. As for the marinate, it's has an indescribable taste and the closest description I have is the resemblance to a fried chicken's marinate. You must definitely visit this restaurant in Dubai for you to experience the full local palate.
