Pink Dot 2018 happens today!
So, why are we talking about this? Well, how can we celebrate love in all its form and ignore the most universal love of all - food! The one that was there for you through your first heartbreak, the one that got you through those bad days and the one that brought you and your loved ones closer together. So, what better way to enjoy the company of your loved ones before/after Pink Dot than bonding over food?
We came up with a short list of places where you can fill your stomach (and your heart).
Pre-event
Pink Dot starts at 3 p.m., which is plenty of time to eat a big meal to last you through the evening. These places in this section make the list because they give bigger servings and are close enough to Hong Lim Park so that you can go early and get a good seat before everyone else starts streaming in.
Hong Lim Food Centre
This two-storey hawker centre is only two minutes away from Hong Lim Park, making it a great place to go to fill up your stomachs before Pink Dot starts. In fact, we recently reviewed some of their most popular stalls, including their famous curry noodles, char kway teow and more! However, as most of the stalls here cater to the lunchtime crowd, the queues might get a bit long so plan your time carefully.
FIV五 Square
If you're looking for somewhere that can cater to the many different tastes of your group, Five Square might be the place. Just a two minutes walk away from the park, Five Square holds six different "food concepts" - Spanish, Vietnamese, Japanese, Western, Chinese and brunch cuisine. Yes, the whole brunch concept has been milked to death already, but dang it, you can pry my eggs benedict from my cold dead hands! Five Square is open for both lunch and dinner, and it also has a bar which is open until midnight, making it a good place to chill and grab a few drinks.
Ronin
A short three minutes walk away lies Ronin, one of our favourite brunch places in the area! We reviewed their delightful french toast before (check that out here), but they have some good savory options and lovely coffee as well. Although the cafe is on the pricier side, they do give quite a large serving , making it perfect for sharing.
Post-event
The places in this section close their doors later, meaning you can stay out and have fun with your friends and family for just a little longer.
People's Park Food Centre
This large food complex is known for having many popular Chinese stalls, with their Mala dishes getting the most attention. Mala is the perfect dish to share among friends and family - one big bowl right in the middle and chopsticks jostling for that prime piece of deliciousness. The complex also has quite a number of seats , meaning it won't be as difficult to find a place for a bigger group of people. So if the festivities at Pink Dot weren't ~spicy~ enough for you, head on over and grab a bowl of mouth-numbing goodness.
Kanpai
Just three minutes away, Kanpai is a pub that is known for their somewhat affordable beer towers and open atmosphere. The towers are priced around the $40 range and they also have bar snacks if you're feeling peckish. The bar is open until 3 a.m., so plenty of time to It can get a bit noisy though, so if you're looking for a quiet bar to have a deep conversation, this might not be the place for you.
The Mad Men Attic Bar
Another bar option would be The Mad Men Attic Bar, which is just a five minutes walk from the park. Aside from being a cool rooftop bar, this bar actually specializes in live music, with bands performing daily under the night sky. They have sharing platters as well as a lot of alcohol options and Saturday brings about an extended Happy Hour - $10 NETT for a pint of Asahi. They're open 'til 3 a.m, so soak up that ambience and have fun with your friends!
That's all for our recommendations, do let us know if we missed anything! Have fun celebrating love in all its forms at Pink Dot everyone and remember, stay safe and drink in moderation.
