Your Guide to TV-supper this World Cup Season

RIP UberEats, it was tasty while it lasted

With the World Cup season in full swing, we here at FAT Club thought it would be good to give a quick lowdown on the various food deliveries available in Singapore to help you make informed food ordering decisions. Gone were the days when your rumbling stomach could only be heard by the standard pizza or Macs, now you can sample food from various restaurants, all without fear of leaving your sofa and missing a potential game-breaking goal.

Third Party Delivery Providers

To start off, here we have the guys whose main purpose in life is to deliver your food. They are the gateway to a myriad of food choices at often discounted prices and are great for small orders. Different deliverers have their own traits and exclusive partnerships, here's some info for you to consider before ordering away.

Ugh, another long article? Well here's your TLDR

1. Deliveroo

Hours & Areas: 8.30am – 11pm, Islandwide

Min. Order & Charges: Min. $12; Delivery fee $3 - $5

World Cup Season Promos:

  • Daily $2 Credit Giveaway: On some days if you place an “ASAP” order between 6pm – 10pm using that day’s given promo code you stand to earn $2 Deliveroo credit for each goal scored, to be used on your next order (e.g. if you used code “KORGER” back on Korea vs Germany’s match day you would have won $4 credit in total). Promo codes are released on their Facebook page/in-app.

Deliveroo notably has a distinguished list of exclusive partner restaurants; by that we mean slightly higher-SES places the likes of PS Café, Tiong Bahru Bakery, Vatos Urban Tacos and Sushi Tei (of course they also have some mainstream chains like Yole, Pezzo or your local Zi Char). User experience has shown that they take their service quite seriously, with an accurate package tracker in-app and riders can contact users directly for directions. Best to use this when you want to glam up your supper game or when you are sick of fast food.

2. Foodpanda

Hours & Areas: 24/7, Islandwide

Min. Order & Charges: Min. $12; Delivery fee $3

World Cup Season Promos:

  • Pick a Side! Campaign: Every week a type of food is chosen with 2 dishes being featured as promo codes (e.g. on Mexican Week the 2 codes are GUAC and SALSA); if you order from a participating restaurant that serves that food type you can choose from 1 of the given dishes. If the side that you chose was the most widely voted for by all users you stand to win $50 and higher vouchers.

  • New DBS cardholders enjoy $15 off min. spend $30: DBSNCXXXXXX*

  • Existing DBS cardholders enjoy 20% off, with $6 cap, min. spend $25: FPDBSXXXXXX*

*XXXXXX refers to last 6 digits of your DBS card used at checkout, both deals valid

till 14 Sep 18.

Foodpanda has the longest list of merchants under their belt, the bulk of it local eateries and mainstream chains of low to mid-range pricing. They deliver exclusively for places like Starbucks (!!), Burger King, KFC and Toast Box. Much like Deliveroo, they have in-app trackers as well and offers detailed order customisation in check-out. Use this if you are looking for a reliable courier for some everyday food or if your nearest heartland mall is like a long LRT ride away. (cough Punggol cough)

3. Honestbee

Hours & Areas: 11am – 10pm; Island wide

Min. Order & Charges: Min. $10; Delivery fee free for limited time

World Cup Season Promos:

  • Football Fiesta Contest: Take a picture of honestbee delivered food and post on their Facebook to stand a chance to win a PS4 Slim

  • New customers enjoy $12 off* with code: 12FIRST

  • Existing customers receive $4 off* with code: 4OFF

*Min. spend of $24 for both promos

Of the pioneers that delved into food delivery, Honestbee regrettably has the least number of restaurants with familiar faces being MOS Burger, Old Chang Kee, Texas Chicken and Itacho Sushi. However, it does have a lower minimum order and free delivery for this World Cup season. Experience has shown that it is wise to order in advance for honestbee because their bottleneck of merchants means you might have zero available places during peak hours. Our take? Stick to their groceries (which they undoubtedly do better), the little you save from delivery and concierge isn’t worth limiting your food options.

4. Grabfood

Hours & Areas: 8am – 11pm; Island wide

Min. Order & Charges: Min. N/A; Delivery fee $3

World Cup Season Promos:

  • Limited-time promos with McDonald’s, check Grabfood's Facebook for updates. Currently, enjoy free Mcdonald's Delivery and $5 off Grab ride when ordering from them between 9pm – 1.30am using code FOOTBALL.

  • $10 off first order for new users: 10OFF

Yes, Grabfood now provides islandwide delivery but that doesn’t mean their merchant list is getting bigger with their exclusive Mcdonald’s really roping in most of the business. Their biggest selling point is that they have no minimum order so use this when Mcdelivery seems slow or when you just want a smaller order - oh, and do so from your phone because it’s app-only for now.

*Bonus Kiasu-ness* Shopback

Applicable for Honestbee, Deliveroo & Foodpanda only.

Order your food via the Shopback app/website to get up to 8.0% additional cashback! Note that this cashback can only work when you use promo codes endorsed by Shopback, so during dark times when none of the above deals work perhaps due to over-usage (yes it happens even to the fastest fingers), you can be comforted that you can still save a tiny bit through Shopback.

5. Porterfetch

Hours & Areas: 9pm- 3am; Island wide

Min. Order & Charges: No min. order; Service charge 9% & Delivery fee $5 and up

World Cup Season Promos: N/A

Although this is probably the priciest on the list, it is also the most satisfying as they deliver almost exclusively from your favourite supper joints such as 126 Dim Sum, Mr Prata, Seng Kee Herbal Chicken Soup and Ponggol Nasi Lemak. They also happen to do so at the most appropriate supper timings which fits in perfectly with late night matches. Order from here to toll you through that 2am match or when your craving for these sinful supper classics strike.

Notable Mentions: Other Delivery Providers

These other service providers are like "the other guys" of the delivery scene; you don't really hear much about them but they nonetheless provide relevant (and sometimes even better) services to fuel you through night matches and the day after.

1. What to Eat Singapore

Hours & Areas: 11am- 11pm; Island wide

Min. Order & Charges: Min. $30; Delivery fee $2.99

Established in 2016, What to Eat does not have the popularity or user base the big 4 possess. That’s because this service works mostly with small restaurants instead of large mainstream chains. Browse through here and you might just find some hidden gems or that go-to eatery near your house that you thought didn’t deliver.

2. WhyQ

Hours & Areas: 9am – 7pm; CBD, Science Park and Changi Business Park

Min. Order & Charges: No min. order; Delivery fee $1.50

Definitely not as useful for the purpose of World Cup viewing given their operating hours, but useful for you CBD workers who might be too tired after staying up all night to bother going out during lunch hours. Extra rest time for you in your air-conditioned office with cheap hawker food from places like Maxwell, Amoy Street and Hong Lim Food Centre delivered for the win!

Pizza Delivery

Of course, if all you want is just a slice of old-school goodness from a cardboard box that can feed a crowd, pizza restaurants still do their own thing by delivering with their own fleet.
